Why I’m an Anti Psychedelic Breathwork Facilitator

Living in Los Angeles, I can’t go to a breathwork or yoga class where positive conversations about psychedelics aren’t the hot topic among both the students and the facilitators.

Taking psychedelics if you’re in the spiritual healing space has become the norm.

I’m not saying there couldn’t be a time and a place for a well-organized plant medicine ceremony. It’s nothing I would personally participate in because of my own values and addiction background.

What I am saying is that psychedelics have become an excuse for people to get high, and they’re masking it as “spiritual development.”

“Coming from a substance abuse background, constantly being fed conversations about psychedelics while seeking healing led me to distance myself from the yoga community entirely.”

Two Ways I've Seen People Lose Themselves

I particularly see it happen in two ways.

The first is people opening layers faster than their nervous system is ready to hold. They come back from medicine journeys with profound insights, but they don’t have the capacity to integrate them or channel them into real change.

The second is more heartbreaking.

I’ve had several clients come to me for Holotropic breathwork who admit they’re afraid to go deep into the non-ordinary states this modality can naturally access. Not because of breathwork itself, but because they had a psychedelic experience that went wrong. Now they’re afraid of losing control all over again.

What Psychedelics Can Cost You

They took the psychedelic trip because they wanted healing, clarity, wisdom, and insight. Thinking that was the way to get there. Yeah, it might feel like a shortcut.

But it can also screw up your life. It can disconnect you from your body, make you afraid of your own consciousness, and rob you of a path back home. Because of drugs. Something you never needed in the first place to have a profound spiritual awakening.

Why I Built Sober Healing Arts

My experience with the yoga / spiritual community shaped how I built my holistic business. Sober Healing Arts. I wanted to create a safe space for people who can be directly harmed by all the talk about “plant medicines.” Because we play by different rules.

A person who’s lived in active addiction and managed to get clean can’t afford to slide into gray zones. Not because one smoke or one ceremony will kill us right away, but because of what that old thinking leads us back to: the belief that we are broken and need something outside ourselves to be okay.

All you need is within you.
You are the medicine.
You are the gift.
You are the power to heal yourself and others

Let me show you how to access youself. My purpose as a breathwork facilitator, healer, friend, and sober sister is to keep a clean healing path available for those whose lives depend on it. No confusion. Just a clean way of living. And that’s a trip by itself.
